Guillermo Del Toro and Peter Jackson had a webchat with fans about the upcoming films. Here are the main points of the chat:
- Howard Shore will be return as the musical composer
- It will most likely be shot exclusively in New Zealand
- Ian Holm will most likely not portray Bilbo Baggins (too old for The Hobbit)
- Guillermo talks about incorporating his own techniques and not going all 'gore-y' but keeping it real exciting
- Hobbiton (or the Shire...?) will be bigger and better than what we saw in LOTR
- Most of the 'gaps' where Gandalf won't be seen in the Hobbit will be used for the second film
- Ian McKellan will reprise his role as Gandalf (YAY!)
- Films will probably be released in 2011 and 2012 :(
- Rating will be PG-13 (Just like LOTR)
- The movies will be darker than the books.
- Movies will be shot back-to-back
- Andy Serkis will be involved in the film as Gollum or Smeagal
- All actors that appeared in LOTR and have a role in the Hobbit will not be recasted
